A vulnerability was found in Netegrity SiteMinder up to 4.5.1 and classified as critical. Affected by this issue is an unknown function of the file /siteminderagent/pwcgi/smpwservicescgi.exe of the component Login. The manipulation of the argument target with an unknown input leads to a redirect vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-601. A web application accepts a user-controlled input that specifies a link to an external site, and uses that link in a Redirect. This simplifies phishing attacks. Impacted is confidentiality, and integrity.

The weakness was disclosed 01/17/2005 by Marc Ruef with scip AG as VDB-1022 as confirmed advisory (Website). The advisory is available at vuldb.com. The public release has been coordinated in cooperation with the vendor. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2005-10001. The attack may be launched remotely. No form of authentication is required for exploitation. Successful exploitation requires user interaction by the victim. Technical details as well as a public exploit are known. This vulnerability is assigned to T1204.001 by the MITRE ATT&CK project.

A public exploit has been developed by Marc Ruef in URL and been published immediately after the advisory. It is declared as proof-of-concept. By approaching the search of inurl:/siteminderagent/pwcgi/smpwservicescgi.exe it is possible to find vulnerable targets with Google Hacking.

Applying a patch is able to eliminate this problem. The bugfix is ready for download at rsasecurity.com.Addressing this vulnerability is possible by firewalling Web Server Port. The best possible mitigation is suggested to be applying a restrictive firewalling.
