Mozilla Thunderbird 1.0 and Firefox 1.0.6 allows remote attackers to obfuscate URIs via a long URI, which causes the address bar to go blank and could facilitate phishing attacks.

The bug was discovered 08/09/2005. The weakness was disclosed 08/08/2005 by Marc Ruef with scip AG as not defined mailinglist post (Website). The advisory is available at computec.ch. The vendor was not involved in the coordination of the public release. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2005-2602 since 08/17/2005. The attack may be launched remotely. No form of authentication is required for exploitation. Successful exploitation requires user interaction by the victim. Technical details are unknown but a public exploit is available.

A public exploit has been developed by Marc Ruef and been published immediately after the advisory. The exploit is available at computec.ch. It is declared as proof-of-concept.
