A vulnerability was found in Novell NetMail 3.5.2 and classified as critical. This issue affects an unknown function of the component User Name Handler. The manipulation as part of a Long Username leads to a stack-based overflow vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-121. Stack-based buffer overflow in webadmin.exe in Novell NetMail 3.5.2 allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary code via a long username during HTTP Basic authentication.

The weakness was published 03/08/2007 with ZDI (Website). It is possible to read the advisory at zerodayinitiative.com. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2007-1350 since 03/07/2007. The attack may be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is needed for a successful exploitation. Technical details are unknown but an exploit is available.

Upgrading eliminates this vulnerability. Applying a patch is able to eliminate this problem. The bugfix is ready for download at download.novell.com.
