This vulnerability is traded as CVE-2014-3634 since 05/14/2014. The exploitability is told to be easy. It is possible to launch the attack remotely. The exploitation doesn't require any form of authentication. Technical details are known, but there is no available exploit.

The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 78497 (openSUSE Security Update : rsyslog (openSUSE-SU-2014:1298-1)), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. It is assigned to the family SuSE Local Security Checks. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 195642 (Ubuntu Security Notification for Rsyslog Vulnerabilities (USN-2381-1)).

Applying a patch is able to eliminate this problem.
