A vulnerability, which was classified as critical, has been found in MailCleaner up to 2023.03.14. This issue affects an unknown part of the component Email Handler. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a os command injection vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-78. The product constructs all or part of an OS command using externally-influenced input from an upstream component, but it does not neutralize or incorrectly neutralizes special elements that could modify the intended OS command when it is sent to a downstream component. Impacted is confidentiality, integrity, and availability.

The weakness was disclosed by Michael Imfeld and Pascal Zenker with modzero AG as MZ-24-01 as confirmed advisory (Website). It is possible to read the advisory at modzero.com. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2024-3191. The exploitation is known to be easy. The attack may be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is needed for a successful exploitation. Technical details are unknown but a public exploit is available. The attack technique deployed by this issue is T1202 according to MITRE ATT&CK.

The exploit is available at modzero.com. It is declared as proof-of-concept.

Applying a patch is able to eliminate this problem. The bugfix is ready for download at github.com.
