Unspecified vulnerability in Microsoft Excel 2000, XP, 2003, and 2004 for Mac, and possibly other Office products, allows remote user-assisted attackers to execute arbitrary code via unknown attack vectors, as demonstrated by Exploit-MSExcel.h in targeted zero-day attacks.
The issue has been introduced in 06/07/1999. The weakness was shared 02/02/2007 with Microsoft as MS07-015 as confirmed bulletin (Technet). The advisory is available at microsoft.com. The vendor was not involved in the coordination of the public release. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2007-0671 since 02/02/2007. The attack may be launched remotely. No form of authentication is required for exploitation. The technical details are unknown and an exploit is not available.
It is declared as proof-of-concept. The vulnerability was handled as a non-public zero-day exploit for at least 2797 days. During that time the estimated underground price was around $25k-$100k. Applying a patch is able to eliminate this problem. The bugfix is ready for download at windowsupdate.microsoft.com. A possible mitigation has been published 2 weeks after the disclosure of the vulnerability. Furthermore it is possible to detect and prevent this kind of attack with TippingPoint and the filter 5122.
