A vulnerability classified as very critical has been found in Microsoft Internet Explorer up to 6 (Web Browser). Affected is an unknown part of the component Embedded Content Handler. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a cross site scripting vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-80. The product receives input from an upstream component, but it does not neutralize or incorrectly neutralizes special characters such as "<", ">", and "&" that could be interpreted as web-scripting elements when they are sent to a downstream component that processes web pages. This is going to have an impact on confidentiality, integrity, and availability. CVE summarizes:
The HTML rendering engine in Microsoft Internet Explorer 6.0 allows remote attackers to conduct cross-site scripting (XSS) attacks via HTML in corrupted images and other files such as .GIF, JPG, and WAV, which is rendered as HTML when the user clicks on the link, even though the web server response and file extension indicate that it should be treated as a different file type.
